1. Introduction
TuConnect ("TuConnect", "we", "us", or "our") is an AI-powered career ecosystem built for Africa. We operate two connected products: TuConnect Grow, which gives job seekers AI-powered career tools, and TuConnect Hire, which gives employers tools to identify, assess and hire talent.
This Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal information when you use our websites, applications and services (together, the "Services"). It applies to job seekers, employers and their team members, and visitors to our site.
We serve users across Africa and internationally. Where local data-protection laws apply to you, including Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 and, where relevant, the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We aim to meet those standards. By using the Services, you acknowledge the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: information you give us, information created when you use the Services, and information from third parties. We only collect what we need to run the Services well.
Information you provide directly. This includes your account details (such as name, email address, phone number and password); profile information; the CVs and resumes, cover letters and other uploaded documents you create or import; details of the job applications you track; recruiter notes and contacts you save; and your communication preferences.
Employer and recruitment information. If you use TuConnect Hire, we collect employer data such as company details, employer account and team-member information, job postings, recruitment workflows, assessments, and candidate management records relating to applicants you review.
AI-generated content. When you use features such as the AI Resume Builder, AI Cover Letter Builder, AI Job Tracker or Career Copilot, we process the inputs you provide and store the AI-generated content and suggestions produced for you, so you can review, edit, save and reuse them.
Information collected automatically. When you use the Services we collect analytics and technical data such as device and browser type, IP address, pages viewed, actions taken, and approximate location, gathered through cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6).
Information from third parties. If you sign in through, or connect, a third-party service, we may receive basic profile information from that provider in line with your settings there.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to provide, maintain and improve the Services: for example, to create and manage your account, generate and store your documents, track your applications, send reminders, and power the employer hiring workflows in TuConnect Hire.
We also use it to personalise your experience, provide customer support, communicate with you about the Services and (subject to your preferences) send updates, and to keep our platform secure and prevent fraud or misuse.
We use aggregated and de-identified analytics to understand how the Services are used and to improve them. Where we use your inputs to produce AI-generated content, that processing is to deliver the feature you requested. We do not sell your personal information.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis (for example under the GDPR or Kenya's Data Protection Act), we rely on one or more of the following:
Contract: to provide the Services you sign up for. Consent: for optional activities such as marketing communications or non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time. Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain and improve the Services, where those interests are not overridden by your rights. Legal obligation: where we must process information to comply with the law.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal.
5. How We Share Information
We share personal information only where needed to run the Services, and never sell it. The main cases are below.
Between job seekers and employers. This is the core purpose of the ecosystem. When you apply to a role or make your profile discoverable, relevant information: such as your CV, cover letter and application details: is shared with the employer concerned. Employers using TuConnect Hire see candidate information for the roles they manage. You control what you submit and to whom.
Service providers. We use trusted vendors to host our infrastructure, process payments, send communications, and provide analytics and AI processing. They may access personal information only to perform services for us, under contracts that require them to protect it.
Legal and safety. We may disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, the public or TuConnect.
Business transfers. If TuConnect is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, keep the Services secure, and understand how the Services are used through analytics.
Essential cookies are needed for the Services to function. Non-essential cookies: such as analytics and preference cookies: are used based on your consent where required, and you can manage them through your browser settings or any cookie controls we provide.
Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Services work.
7. Data Security
We take the security of your information seriously. We use technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls, and secure, reputable hosting: to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss or misuse.
No online service can be completely secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security, and you also play a part by keeping your account credentials confidential. If we become aware of a data breach that affects you, we will act in line with applicable law.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services: for example, retaining your CVs, cover letters, saved applications and AI-generated content so they remain available to you.
When you delete content or close your account, we delete or de-identify the associated personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce our agreements.
Aggregated or de-identified data, which cannot reasonably identify you, may be retained for analytics and product improvement.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information. Where the GDPR or Kenya's Data Protection Act applies, these typically include:
the right to access the information we hold about you; to correct inaccurate information; to delete your information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
You can exercise many of these rights directly in your account settings, or by contacting us (see Section 14). We will respond in line with applicable law. If you believe we have not handled your information properly, you may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
10. International Data Transfers
TuConnect is based in Kenya and serves users across Africa and internationally. Your information may be processed in, or transferred to, countries other than your own, including where our service providers operate: which may have different data-protection laws.
Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard consistent with this policy and applicable law, using appropriate safeguards such as contractual protections with the parties receiving the information.
11. Third-Party Services
The Services rely on trusted third parties for functions such as hosting, payments, communications, analytics and AI processing. These providers process personal information on our behalf under agreements that require appropriate protection and limit their use of it to providing services to us.
The Services may also contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party tools (for example, if you connect an external account). Those third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review them.
12. Children's Privacy
The Services are intended for adults in the workforce and for job seekers who are of legal working age in their jurisdiction. They are not directed at children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the age at which they can provide valid consent under applicable law. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Services, our practices, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
